Hi and welcome to a new recap and extra income report while working full-time, August 2018 Recap + Extra Income Report.
Every month I publish an in-depth report of my net-worth and extra income projects. I personally love reading income reports and I hope by doing this I inspire you to start side hustling too.
If you’re extra curious about my personal life you can go my other blog, IzzaGlino where I published my Goodbye August 2018, Hello September post. It simply chronicles the highlights of my month complete with photos and short anecdotes.
A great start for you to know my outlook for this year would be the 2017 in Review I did.
Publishing my recap and extra income report monthly has always been for two main reasons:
1. To help myself stay on track with my finances and stay accountable to my goals and actions.
2. To encourage you and the others who are reading this post to pursue your passion and hustle your way to success.
August 2018 Recap
Time in August was spent mostly working on deliverables at work. I have to step up my game because the evaluation is coming up and I still have pending manuals to draft and move for approval. Whew. Being a technical writer is truly harder when you are in the banking and finance sector.
I also spent a dinner with family for the celebration of my eldest sister’s birthday. We had dinner at Yakimix which was a real heaven in my opinion. I enjoy grilled meats and seafoods so much.
The dinner reminded me of my recent trip to South Korea where we also ate a “legit” samgyupsal meal. I miss traveling and can’t wait for November to arrive since I will be in Palawan and God’s will, another trip abroad! Wiiii!!! Will update you for sure.
How was money for August 2018?
I didn’t have any unexpected expenses for August 2018 which is always good.
The usual essential expenses like tithes, transportation allowance, food allowance and bills were all paid off well. Speaking of bills, we had an unusual electric bill for the month of August 2018 which brought me a big savings.
We were surprised to see our electric bill for August to be Php 64 only. Haha.
I also have bigger salary this month because of the Holiday Pay incentive at work which was computed three days instead of two.
Next month will be a hard one for me financially because I will be attending discipleship classes at church after work. This means I have to budget more money on food and transportation.
Of course I shop for new books again but nothing far from the budget I intended, thank God.
That’s it for August!
August 2018 Extra Income Report
For August 2018, I earned a total of Php 1781 ($33.31) extra income from blogging. The rest of my extra income projects – YouTube, Freelance Content Writing and Wedding Emcee were Php 0.
Blogging
The income I revealed above is the combined Google Adsense income I have from this blog and my other blog, IzzaGlinoFull.
I did a 4500+ word blog post about My First Google Adsense Payment Story to give you an idea what it takes to earn money on Google Adsense.

Below is/are the big win/s on my blog for this month.
1. I reached $30 mark on Google Adsense
The first time I hit 30 dollar mark earnings on Google Adsense was on April 2018. After that, my monthly earnings stayed between $25 to $27 only.
I was surprised this August when I checked my Google Adsense account to find out that I earned $33 in total. This moved me made me so close in cashing out another $100 payout.
My next $100 is my third already for the year 2018 which still feels surreal considering I when I started blogging I only earn roughly $2 or less every single month. Truly, hard work pays in the end and I am looking forward for the time when I can earn $100 on a monthly basis!
2. Email exploded to 1550+ members
For the first three years of my blogging journey I didn’t take building a mailing list seriously. I thought no one will dare to sign up on my tribe. Thankfully, I overcome this fear in June 2017.
What do you get as part of my email list?
Access to the Resource Library where you can download freebies like workbooks, budget templates, money manifestos etc.
An exclusive email every week containing info and updates I only share to my subscribers. My first newsletter includes how my first three months investing in direct stock market went. And the response has been amazing.
Below are my must do’s related to blogging as the new month begins:
- Consistently publish 2 new posts a week. If you notice I’ve been lacking posts lately and I rarely post on a consistent schedule. I will try not to let procrastination get the most of me for September. I really want to publish two new posts a month that are helpful, valuable and relatable.
- Be at least one week ahead of blog posts. I’ve always wanted to get ahead of my blog schedule. I imagine getting ahead of at least one week of new blog posts will provide me a better work-life balance for September.
- Update 1 SavingsPinay Post a week. I badly need to update past posts in SavingsPinay to optimize and to add proper ads inside. I have been longing to do this ever since my Kuya from Olanap.com helped me insert ads within my blog posts. This move goes the same with my other blog, IzzaGlinoFull.com wherein I must re-publish a lot of content.
- Send out weekly Newsletter. The weekly newsletter is an essential part of my engagement to SavingsPinay readers. I don’t just send a snippet of a new blog post I published. I actually manage to write and send a helpful guide, insightful tips and personal story to my subscribers.
August 2018 Blog Income Update
For August, I earned a total of $33.31 or Php 1781.
This and my income last month, I am now around $85 near in reaching my next Google Adsense threshold.
And since I have not yet reached my threshold this income is not reflected on my net worth update.
Seriously, after I earned my first $100 from Google AdSense, it became so much easier for me to reach my next payment threshold.
It took me almost four years to make money in Google AdSense and now I only need to wait 3-4 months.
This gives me so much hope that in near future I could earn $100 monthly, even more!
What did I do differently?
Owning my own domain and hosting made such a huge difference in my blog life.
That investment unlocked all the possibilities for monetization on my blog. For three long years I didn’t bother to have my own domain and web hosting.
August 2018 Blog Traffic Update
Another month where I hit 20,000 pageviews a month on SavingsPinay. Knowing that my blog is read or even visited 20,000 times is such a huge achievement for me.
You see, when I started SavingsPinay I never imagined it to be what it is today, a source of inspiration to others. Thank you for keeping this blog alive.
From 24,332 views last month I went up to 26,647.

Below is the simple spreadsheet to show my August 2018 Net Worth:
Here are the details:
1. Extra Income – Php 20,904.11
There is no movement for my extra income fund since I have yet to cash out my blog sweldo.
I am honestly disappointed at myself because I have big plans on for my passion projects for 2018.
But, I FAILED BIG TIME to execute things. All of my income streams, except for the blog, is earning.

2. Savings Account – Php 44, 719.12
One of my goal this 2018 is to reach Php 60,000 savings and put it on a passbook account.
And since I only put 10% of my income in Emergency Fund I will definitely fail in this goal as well.
My action item is to put my bonuses in this account instead.
I really want to tick-off this goal so that by 2019 I can focus on investing my money more.

3. Stocks – Php 36, 676.65
The Philippine stock market is already moving up!!!!!!!!!! Hooray!!!!!!
The PSEi closed to 7800 points for August 2018 and this is a good figures already considering how it went downhill after January 2018.
I’ve said this before and I say it again, I continue to invest even if the stock market is failing.
I am investing for the long-term and I refrain to be swayed by my emotions easily.

4. Mutual Fund – Php 64,838.86
I’ve been investing in mutual fund since 2014.
For the first three years I experienced slow growth in my mutual fund earnings.
I even experienced a loss in my last update.
The current state of the Philippine stock market affected the market value of my mutual investment big time. I’m not happy at all looking at my portfolio.
From almost Php 9000 gain in January down to a negative. Undoubtedly, sad.
But then I’m keeping my investment intact.
Mutual Fund is a good parking lot for whatever savings I have so I will still believe that as the market goes up once again, the returns I have will return and even grow bigger.

5. FarmOn – Php 17,000.00
As of April 2018, the total money I have invested on crowdfunding through FarmOn is Php 17,000.
My rice investment started in January 2018 and I have to wait for the next six to eight months for the return.
The squash, on the other hand, was just last March 2018 so I’ll probably see the return by the end of the year.
Sadly, my earnings still doesn’t reflect which is bad since a lot of people in the FarmOn Facebook Group have already received their ROI. I still see posts from people who invested in the same cycle as I did who hasn’t received their earnings yet.
I am hoping the earning will reflect in the first week of September will. I will call Farm On again to ask for update.

6. Receivables
I know my receivables is too much and I have to do something to decrease this and reinvest instead.
Both Receivable #1 and #2 are money owed to me.
Other Assets are combined value of items I own that has market value like aircon (I won on a raffle), LCD projector and gadgets like Ipad Mini and previous HP laptop.
7. Liabilities – Php 0.00
I currently don’t have any liabilities, debt or credit.
